I can't be the first one to think of that combo, but a quick search of the entire internets reveals not a single example. Your thoughts, gentlemen + Hannaugh?

In my experience, 12 string necks on Tele bodies are way neck heavy, even with a heavy body.

It would look cool though.

There is a guy on TDPRI that converts ordinary tele necks into 12 strings sort of like the Ric 12 strings.  I prefer that look because it keeps the familiar tele headstock.

But I LOVE the idea you have.  Go for it!!  :hello2:

On neck heaviness: if you pick light tuners and place your strap buttons carefully, I imagine a medium weight body would be fine. Since the cabro is rear routed, you can easily epoxy some lead weights near the output jack to help out the balance as well. I think it's a solvable problem.

12 string rear routed dual filtertron strat? Maybe sparkly red w/binding? Could also be something huh.

From actual experience, a 6 lbs 4 oz body with pickups and hardware was still neck heavy with vintage tuners and several strap button placements.  That's why I gave up and went Strat body for the 12, even though I really wanted it to be Tele shaped.  I'm just warning you... if you're going to play it a lot, there's a reason you don't see Tele shaped 12s very often.

I must concur with Mr. Mark.  My regular teles are not quite neck heavy, but are pretty close to being.  These are with admittedly heavy PW tuners and hefty boat necks.

However, my warmoth Fender XII is not neck heavy at all and has a nice feel to it.  If you really want the Tele shape, go for it of course - hey I've got 4 of them!.  But it's my opinion that it will be neck heavy.

Course, this may not matter to you.  YMMV.  Just throwing up a warning flag.  Feel free to ignore - i'm just some guy on the internet after all.

A 12 string strat or JM would probably be cool too. But still, a 12 string with TV jones pups and a tele shape!

In other news, Lollar is now going to sell Fender style WR humbuckers. So - Hmmmmm.

Not a carbonita but a 12 string with Tele shape.

I like it more than I thought I would... I don't have any trouble with balance when I'm sitting. The strap for it is supposed to show up tomorrow so I'll probably finally put the strap buttons on it this weekend and try it out standing up.

As with a lot of the other folks, I can see where the bigger headstock can add to the unit as a whole being somewhat neck heavy, but not on an extreme sense. Personally, I'd find something with a big headstock on it in a music store, and try that on for size, mainly to get reference points. The closest thing I can think of bench testing would be a reverse-body Firebird. Also, adding something to the underside of your strap to aid in grip may help prevent neck dive.

The biggest thing that comes to my mind when you mention twelve strings and Filtertrons is Mike Nesmith from the Monkees. I think Gretsch actually made an artist series model for him during the sixties simply due to the popularity of the band.

However, and this is just me, if you are gonna do the FilterTron pickups, you should also think about shark fin neck inlays too.

speaking of the monkeys, they have a few songs that I really like,  I know they didn't write their own stuff, nor did they play instruments on their songs, in fact they didn't sing on the first few songs, whatever, I like their stuff.

Michael Nesmith is an idiot by the way.

True, but a 12-string Gretsch seems like a neat concept to say the least

Even though I loved The Monkeys as a kid in the '70's I realized I don't know anything about Mike Nesmith except that his mother invented White Out (which she sold to Gillette in 1980 for US $48 million.)

In my research I learned that he was executive producer of the movie Repo Man (one of my favorite '80's movies.)  Even more importantly, in the 1970's he created a television program titled Pop Clips for the Nickelodean network.  In 1980 the program was sold to the Time Warner/Amex consortium which developed Pop Clips into the MTV network.

Thats just from a Google search.  Perhaps he is an idiot for selling the program before it reached its true potential, but heck, quite a resume for a simple monkey.

I will say my Rosewood Twelecaster (it's really a thinline though) has some neck dive, but I usually play it sitting, so I don't really care.

I thought he had been?  A friend of mine has a Jazzmaster with Lollar WR.

He's not had them as an option on the site for long, but I think they were a call-and-ask option before.
