    Grain filler

I second JPOL's endorsemsnt of solarrez grain filler. I'll never use anything else. First, there is NO SHRINKAGE which undo's the progress and requires multiple applications when anything with a carrier solvent (including water) is used. Two part epoxy shares that advantage but puts you in a...

First Warmoth build, I think I'm going to need some help

Ned, Its a drop top on the body with a dark laminate accent line. I was going for subtle on the accent line rather than contrasting, but both woods are so dark its just about invisible. The headstock is a thin veneer so there will be no monkey business with dye or pore filling up there.

First Warmoth build, I think I'm going to need some help

I ordered in mid January and there was no Koa on the site. I really wanted it for this next (and last) build. I grew up in Hawaii and wanted to hold in my hands wood that had sprung from the loins of my homeland. So I had email exchange with Spike and begged him to scrounge around the shop and...

First Warmoth build, I think I'm going to need some help

Finally able to start this. Had to finish these first : Started with 2 coats of black keta dye in water: Nice and uniform, but yikes, doesn't look like koa anymore. I am slightly comforted by the words of Ragamuffin "Trust the process". After 2 hours of hand sanding, it didn't look much...

Paint splatter marks? will it come through clear coat?

On my current project, minor barely visible flaws in the paint surface were amplified by the clearcoat and amplified again after polish. Your going to have to sand that smooth and add another coat of color to cover the sandthroughs.

Since We've Been Talking About Koa...

I plan to fill mine x2 with resin AND apply shellac with pumice. Experiments on scrap confirmed the necessity of this.

    One more for the road

Stunning. I may abandon my shellac plan and do this. Is this just tru oil and sand paper or did you add "stock sheen" (whatever that is) ?

First Warmoth build, I think I'm going to need some help

Thanks ! Compliments from the likes of stratmania, ragamuffin, Rick and teleme01 mean something. I feel better that I'm on a good path. Bruce et al, I had concern that the abalone with the wierd fretboard wood would look cheesy but I think it works. I'm working on some koa scrap experimenting...
