The pitch test loaded OK for me. The rhythm test will only load to 61% and then hangs there. Maybe that's for the best. I'm always hovering on a mental breakdown.
I didn't see the adaptive pitch test. I'll go back and try that. I put off my normal score to crappy laptop speakers and a swamp cooler roaring nearby. :icon_biggrin:
Here's a test to see how good an ear you have. It seemed to help if I closed my eyes. I scored in the normal range. http://jakemandell.com/tonedeaf/ (Mods, if this is too far off topic, please move. I thought more people would see it here.)
Edited to add: On a web page leading up to the test...
I used a Warmoth neck on a MightyMite flame maple Telecaster body and it turned out really nice. I don't see any problem at all using components from different makers, and long as the neck pocket and scale are the same.
I don't think moving the pickup towards the bridge is that big a deal. The position of the neck pickup on some guitars places the neck side row of magnets under the open string node of the second octave. Any fretted note would move this node away from being centered on the magnets anyway. I'm...
I'm looking forward to seeing your results John. Looking at jmasins' post, I noticed the 7th dissonant harmonic (about 775Hz) that is almost a minor 7th (783.99). Maybe we should start a new thread. We've done a pretty good job of hijacking Volitions Advocate's rebar thread. The node VA grabbed...
Good piece of work jmasin. Your chart is an eye opener. I'd never seen it done like that before. It is easy to see how the strong 3rd harmonic (E4), fairly strong 5th harmonic (C#4), and good 6th harmonic (E5) give the 3rd and 5th interval notes to make a chord.
No offense taken jmasin. I was more or less thinking out loud about Johnhamdun's post. I'm hardly an acoustic engineer. In fact, I've reached the age where I don't know what I know anymore. :icon_biggrin:
There are 3rds and 5ths strong enough to heard in the note played. If there are 3rds and 5ths. then their 3ds and 5ths are also present and it goes on and on. These are not there with enough amplitude to really effect the tone of the note though.
Hi folks. I'm in the process of overhauling a Fender Lead I for my nephew. The Lead I only had the bridge pickup but the body was routed for a single coil in the neck position. He wants a humbucker neck pickup and I was wondering if there is certain distance from the nut or bridge that is best...
This afternoon I took a big flake of the finish and dipped it in acetone with tweezers. After about 30 seconds I pulled the flake out and it was still brittle. I'll proceed with the repair for a poly finish. Thanks for the help guys.
Thanks CB. I have the guitar re-assembled working on a new nut. When I'm finished with the nut, I'll do the acetone test on the heel and proceed from there. If it's lacquer, I'll inform my nephew he won't be getting his guitar back any time soon. One more question though; should I go ahead and...
