Aesthetically best raw neck for walnut body

I just want to add that Pau Ferro can match walnut very well. A lighter rosewood is probably a better match than dark rosewood, but really there's going to be a slight brown color mismatch no matter which  way you go. But it's no big deal. Of course the best match for a walnut body would be a...

Mirror pickguards and different color mirrors? Or am I the only one who likes those?

    Burnishing Raw Necks

The micro mesh sanding pads go to 12,000 grit (grey.) They recently started making cloths/paper in addition to the pads.

    Best overall body/neck wood?

Weight and looks are at the top of the list of my considerations and I can't imagine selecting a "perfect" wood neglecting those two. That being said, I really like Pau Ferro even though it is a bit on the heavy side.

    p90 wire question

Check the black wire to the shield drain with a voltmeter. They may be connected under the pickup cover. If they are then it won't be possible to separate the grounds the way I've described elsewhere, which I believe undermines the shielding effectiveness of the cover. Cagey and others would say...

    Newb Hum elimination question

Yeah I'm the one proposing dedicated grounds separate from signal returns, the idea being to drain hum away directly to the output jack -. There's no reason to couple through stray capacitance and contaminate your differential signal by taking a longer path to the same point. Rivers don't tend...

    Newb Hum elimination question

A lot in this thread, but this is basically true for shielding tape and conductive paint that uses a thin layer of metal with no gaps. That is good for shielding high frequency. At low frequency you can have huge gaps in shielding, but you need metal thickness to absorb the higher energy at low...

August 2014 Guitar of the Month Contest Submissions

I'm able to log in today! I was getting a cookie setting message, didn't change anything but now I'm able to log in so something must have been fixed. Anyway, I agree with Dolando. We are well into August and while I appreciate seeing my baritone in the corner it really is time for an update to...

    help - loose tuners

I agree with this. That is such a small gap, it may just be normal to have a gap that small. Please don't use the glue though. I have a bad feeling that could make a real mess.

    help - loose tuners

If I were faced with this situation I'd probably "quit" and order some tuners sized for the holes I got. If I absolutely had to keep those tuners I would rather use something like this than superglue: http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-shims/=t37mw1 They have metric sizes in steel, watch your...

    P90 wiring for no hum

I'm not looking to revive this thread, but DMRACO had asked for a wiring diagram for a single P90, so I've attached that with the traditional tone circuit shown. Apologies for not being able to get to it sooner. Good luck all and happy soldering!
