    warmoth practice

If you're gonna go cheap, you might as well buy a used knock-off axe from someone on E-bay.  Minimal risk, and essentially no different than buying something new if you're just gonna gut it and replace everything anyways.

    Tube Preferences?

    What is it about strats?

The Strat, because in this case we are talking about the Strat, is no more and no less capable than any other guitar - unless you're talking about the shiteee "metal" guitars that are coming out now, equipped with the most sterile sounding, toneless active pickups imaginable...but that's a...

    Swamp Ash Jazzmaster

Awesome color scheme going on there...and look at the grain on that fingerboard!  :toothy12:  Nice job man.

    Tube Preferences?

Well...a few reasons I think the preamp tubes are toast.  I bought the amp off the floor of a huge guitar store (probably stupid because it had most likely been cranked many, many times already), and adding to that, I had cranked it many a time myself to keep up with a full on rock band.  Not...

    Tube Preferences?

So...I'm going to have to replace my recently deceased Electro-Harmonix 12AX7 preamp tubes in my Classic 30.  But, I don't really have a whole lot of experience with tubes or tube amps, so I have a few questions for you guys: - What are your preferences for brands to buy tubes from? (I've heard...

    "Big Dipper" pups

Anyone can sound like John Mayer!  Just go to your local guitar shop and have them order you a custom Dumbel clone amp for $5000, then buy a vintage Strat (has to be vintage or else it's no good), then buy a vintage TS808 (but it has to be an original vintage one or else it's no good)...then...

    first arrival 2008

Man...call me crazy but I think the body finish looks cool as hell as is!  Really raw and rugged lookin.  Just my weird opinion though.  *dodges flames*  :dontknow:

Figured Walnut with Transparent Red finish -- should I go for it or not?

An all maple body will create a very trebly, shrill sound...using a core wood such as alder or swamp ash would offer more tonal balance and you could still retain that birdseye carved top.  Some folks on here might say body wood doesn't play a very large part in determining tone, but it...

What kind of strings do you prefer?

Wow...I'm surprised at how light the average string guage preference is - and amongst you supposed tone junkies?!   :laughing7: I usually use D'Addario 11's or 12's.  I find 10's okay for recording and ease of rippage, but when I'm jamming out, I tend to play harder and the slinkier strings...
