Photos of my Seafoam Green Strat / Canary neck

Beautiful Strat! Love the Surf Green. You're obviously a big fan of Canary wood. What do you like about it in comparison to laquered necks. I had a Wenge/Ebony a while back, but found the unfinished Wenge almost too slippery.

Think I've finally nailed the problem!

I had them screwed in as hand tight as possible with a torque screw driver. Anymore and I'd have been afraid that I'd strip the threads. All the parts apart from the electrics were bought from Warmoth. Maybe using Fender neck screws at the start would have saved me a whole world of trouble.

Can a Warmoth Pro neck handle heavier strings than a Vintage Modern?

The way Warmoth "big it up", I'd imagine they could handle any guage regardless of how heavy they are. I had one Pro, which as usual was beautifully made, but on other forums I'd read about metallic tone, and hate to say it, the Standard Thin Pro I had did have that sound. Maybe a thicker...

Think I've finally nailed the problem!

I've started quite a few threads on here about tuning problems I've had with my Warmoth Strat.  I've changed necks, Tuners, installed Graphtech nuts and saddles, etc, etc, I won't go on..... Problem got so bad I recently resorted to buying a Fender body as I thought maybe it may be the body wood...

Alder Strat body, best finish that's not laquer.

I'm about to order a solid Alder Strat body for my Strat. I've finished necks with brushed on gloss laquer (Rustins Plastic Coating),  but have no experience with a larger piece like a body. I'd like to add a colour stain of some kind. What would be best to put over the top of that to seal and...

How often do you retune during gigs?

Strange thing is, when I play at home my Strat stays in tune, and I play sometimes for hours at a time.

How often do you retune during gigs?

That's a neat unit indeed. My Strat is a hardtail and I'd hoped I wouldn't have to resort to those kind of units. Most frustrating thing is, it's such a beautiful guitar to play, and the light weight is a joy too! If the problem continues the Tronical is definitely a great solution!

How often do you retune during gigs?

I used a Fender Strat Plus for over 20 years with a decked Trem, and only occasional retuning (3-4 times),was needed during my usual 2-3 hour gigs. In 2008 I ended up buying 3 Fender Am Std Strats, 1 new, the other 2 at unresistable used prices. All 3 again had the Trems decked and once tuned...

    How stable is Swamp Ash?

So to return to my original question, does the fact that Swamp Ash spends all its living life submerged in water, make it any less stable than Alder, Northern Ash, etc, etc? I'm talking about small amounts of expansion and contraction caused by a change in temperature, enough to throw the tuning...

    How stable is Swamp Ash?

Exactly a year ago I got my chambered Swamp Ash hardtail Strat body, along with a standard thin Maple/Rosewood VM neck. I've had 5 Warmoth necks both VMs and a Pro, and a Fender MIM neck on it in that time, and tuning stability has never been that great when gigging. Recently I decided to put my...

Can't get neck as straight as I want

And the Standard Thin Pro I had sounded metallic as well. Love the VMs though. The 59 Roundback had the best tone of any neck I ever owned!

Can't get neck as straight as I want

That's what I thought too! :dontknow:

Can't get neck as straight as I want

Yes a concave "bow", of 0.08-0.15" is what I'm talking about. In general guitar speak I always thought convex was a "hump". My Vintage Modern has relief of 0.010" at the 8th fret, Fenders recommendation, with the truss rod loose in the neck which doesn't make for good tuning as the...

Can't get neck as straight as I want

Yep, easy way to check neck relief is with a capo at the 1st fret, hold down the low E string at the fret where the neck meets the body, and at the 8th fret adjust the distance between the fret and the bottom of the string to 0.010". On Fender vintage style necks you have to make the adjustments...
