Yup - and that adds to the cost of the project.  I know my first build, I took to a luthier for a final check and fretwork (I wasn't up for that myself), so it added $100 to that project.  I know there are a number of people that go this route because they don't want to take "irreversible" steps...

Ola is hillarious.

Cranked the piss out of it last night through a SLO-30.  It was glorious!  I may tweak my treble bleeds a bit, but it was very usable and as one of my friends said, "that thing has some serious balls."

For posterity - this technique works well on maple, and is likely feasible on swamp ash, based on the scraps I got from Warmoth when I ordered my body.  Swamp ash came out lighter with the same dye than maple did, but for my final product, it was close enough that I didn't worry about it. (edit...

Final body prior to assembly - came out WAY better than I was expecting... Assembly was next. Plan was for: Pickups - Dimarzio Area T neck and bridge Gotoh compensated bridge Neck pickup with volume only, bridge volume and tone. Ran into a problem - The Area T neck pickup is ~0.9" deep...

I asked Warmoth to include scraps when I purchased my body in January and they did.  You could go that avenue.
