    Preparing Rosewood for Oil Finish

I undoubtedly asked about this in one of my earlier threads but I cannot find any reference to it now.  Similarly, I cannot find any satisfactory answers to my questions via Google...which leaves me feeling a bit dumb. I have managed to procure some Liberon Finishing Oil for the rosewood Strat...

So, many weeks later, I finally get the resources to start the finishing process on this beast and I find out that Liberon products aren't stocked in California because of some kind of viscosity regulation... Any thoughts on using red mahogany danish oil?  I do want more red tones from the...

Liberon it is and I have to do it myself.  Sorry, Marko, gonna put some on the neck for the sake of a moisture barrier.  Any tips?  Best cloth for the job?  Can a leather cloth like a chamois be used for the rubbing?  Any particular techniques to employ?

Looks like I'm doing the finish myself and it's going to be Liberon.  Any tips on this?  Can something like a chamois be used to apply the stuff and rub it?  If not a chamois, what other sort of cloth can be used for a deep rub?

    The iRig

I have heard nothing at all that sucks as badly as an iRig.  The damned thing kept randomly cutting out on me and inexplicably climbing in latency.  Bottom line:  if you want to try an iPhone inferface, drop the bill on an Apogee JAM (no idea if they're any good) or just buy one of those silly...

    Measure of Interest

I've got a Squire Telecaster I modded with DiMarzio pickups (Tone Zone T in the bridge and the Strat-size Chopper humbucker in the neck) and a push-pull coil split; alder body (black-brown-yellow burst), pearloid pickguard, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, and 1M volume/250k tone Bourns...

What's the story on necks/fingerboards and oil finishes?

I definitely like the Danish Oil better than the tung oil.  Over in the finishing forum, Ivar posted a picture of his Strat, which is rosewood finished with Liberon.  I really think it's between Liberon and Danish oil at this point, barring some kind of gods-spawned awesome alternative.

Something very very much like that yes.  Yes!  YES.  OH GOD YES! ...sorry.  That looks really awesome and leaves me once again wishing I'd gotten a Schaller floyd rose instead of a 475.  What sort of finish is that?

Bagman - I'm up near Richmond.  If there's not too many interested, a good fall back would be to introduce you to my luthier up here.  He makes the most amazing acoustics I've heard...just don't play them unless you're ready to commit $10,000; GAS is not the word at all, it's more like your soul...

    Rosewood Strat

I couldn't say the exact weight but UPS listed the package containing all the parts but the pickups, pots, and knobs at 10 pounds. I'm still not totally sure about the finish but I'm paranoid about the wood getting scratched or the climate (I live the in the San Francisco Bay area) being damp...

The only rain on the parade is the fact that holes in the middle pickup mounting ring are so close to the pickup that they scraped the sides of the cover when I screwed it in.  I'll probably see if I can get a new cover and some screws with smaller heads...
