+1 to both of these. i have a bass vi and a jazzmaster(ish) with raw roasted maple necks and a 5-string with a raw wenge neck. i think they're noticeably more comfortable than satin nitro.
as far as pickups go, consider a delano mc series or a nordstrand mm4.4 in the warmoth "sweet spot" and...
That's been my experience with the Gibson Gothics. Not just contact areas either - they're susceptible to scratches, oils, and spills. The tech would have to change dramatically before I bought another matte- or satin-painted guitar.
Buddy of mine ripped all of the pots out of his Ibanez and replaced them with an on-off switch between the jack and pup. Nary a complaint in three years.
@SustainerPlayer, that's a sleek guitar. I'm curious, why the classic-style bonnet knob instead of a more modern roundtop to match the other...
Nice! Custom case for a custom guitar. :icon_thumright: I've never worked with spray foam before. Is it as straightforward as it sounds?
@sixstringsamurai That's a sexy case but out of my price range. Thanks for the reco anyway.
So I've got a Diamondback close enough to finished that I can start gigging with it. I'll post pictures once I finish the fret dressing and polishing. Been hunting around for a hard case that will fit all of its spiky offsetness and I'm coming up empty. Anybody got a recommendation?
All three of those basses look outstanding. The pumpkin has a tasty vintage look (I like the white pup covers too) and I'm taking note of that pink in case I ever build a serious shredder guitar. :party07:
Nice! I have a couple of coasters myself.:icon_thumright:
Dig the zebra coils. Please do post your thoughts on the Irish Tours - I love my Nailbomb set and Black Dog bridge but have never installed one of their single coils.
+1 to the fret rocker above. Neck Check also sells a relatively inexpensive notched straightedge that has helped me out a lot as I've been learning fret work. Very convenient for setting the neck dead straight before fret leveling because it sits right on the fingerboard - takes uneven frets...
Very interesting! I am a bass (and guitar) player in a wheelchair. I've never seen anything like this before. It's particularly eye-opening to me that you chose a Jazz as your "standing" demo bass. The offset waist actually makes the Jazz one of the more comfortable body shapes to play sitting...
