Easiest kind of finish for DIY?

I think some RIT dyes and Tru oil would be easy and inexpensive. Just cut up an old T-shirt, pick a color(s) and give it a try. Lots of help is available on youtube. Michael

    Why tru-oil

I have a 1/4” thick sheet of alder to practice on. I will use both sides and see how I like it. If I’m not happy, I’ll just use Tru oil over the d Body with no dye.

    Why tru-oil

How does Tru oil work over dye? Does it smear the dye? I've used it over bare wood but I think I'm going to try dying my next build. I like how simple it is to use and I don't want to stray far from my very limited experience. Michael

    Opinions on alternate finish options

The body came in. I definitely prefer it to black. I think the white pearl pickguard looks better. Can't wait to put it together!

    Opinions on alternate finish options

I ended up sending a 3-piece unpainted Warmoth P-bass body I bought a while ago back to Warmoth for a Daphne blue satin paint job and a white pearl pickguard. I think that will go well with the neck I purchased. I will be selling the satin black P-bass body in case someone is interested. Michael

New video: Is GAS a good thing?

I thought I had enough instruments and then the sale at the end of last year hooked me. I am in the process of building a P bass. I have built 2 5-string Jazz basses and a hybrid strat/tele guitar with a superwide neck. Any 12-step groups for GAS? Michael

    Opinions on alternate finish options

I've seen people make a mock-up of their guitar with different neck/pickguard and body combinations. I was curios if this is a website anyone can use or was this a particular program of some kind. I just wanted to play around with different combinations to see how the different combinations...

    Opinions on alternate finish options

I purchased a bass neck and P-bass body during the big sale at the end of last year. I thought I would like the color combination, but I definitely prefer a lighter color for the bass. I'm thinking white or one of the light blue colors like Sonic, Daphne or Turquoise. The Warmoth website used to...

    Screamin' deal Pbass

I picked up a swamp ash Precision bass body in satin black along with a tele bass neck made from roasted maple with turquoise dot inlays. I need some more pieces to finish the build. I have a Nordstrandt pickup, but it's for a 5-string bass. Do you think it will still work? I'm also trying to...

I thought roasted necks were supposed to be more stable! I just bought one for a P-bass build. Michael

Screamin' Deals Mega Sale starts today!

Sigh! GAS strikes again! I just couldn't resist getting a Tele bass neck for the P-bass body I bought a year ago during another special ($100 3-piece ash). How many guitar/bass builds does it take before I'm diagnosed with some psychological ailment! Michael

    superwide fatback

My hands aren't as big as yours, but they are big my experience has been with bass guitars. I was really struggling with standard width so I got a superwide Strat neck in the standard thin profile. It is definitely more comfortable! Michael
