i have akoa strat that i did in tung and teak oil. it's super resonant!
and tru-oil is great too....
but a a lacquer finish looks best on koa, i think. especially if you have a really nice piece of wood!
i have two jazzmasters. they are both set up old school- one is a 59 and the other is a clone.
i have spent FAR too much free time in the pursuit of jazzmasters in the past 4 years. Weeks on offsetguitars.com------
in this case, I would say take the buzzstop off 1st. that'll give you an idea...
i have friends who have worked with padouk, either amateur luthiers or cabinet makers, and they told me that the wood will stay quite red even if you use oil as a finish. a buddy of mine made a great padouk table and used a urethane on top and it is still very red.
i have a 2lb8oz white korina JM body...
so far, i have put a traditional maple and braz rw neck on it. BUT i was very interested in a korina neck with ebony---
i vote for korina!
i've used circa1850 mixed tung and teak oil for some time- i love it! it penetrates and makes a fairly hard coat.
i've put it on mahogany, maple, walnut, alder...
it only adds a little bit of colour- not much to speak of.
