    Bargain Strat

Thanks for the nice comments guys. No, this is not a re-finish, that's just what I always called a paint job. I used to "refinish" cars for a living. This is "out of a spray can re-ranch lacquer" I believe it is actually made by Lawrence McFadden. It is far superior to Deft in my opinion. I...

    Bargain Strat

Got my sale Strat done. Neck and body purchased in the sale last Dec. My first attempt at refinishing a body. Light weight Ash dyed with a red/mahogany dye. When I put two coats of clear and used grain filler, it sanded back through. I liked the way it looked kind of worn, so I cleared it. I...

    Bargain Basement Strat

Got this off the sale a while back. Never refinished a body before, though I use to paint cars. Dyed the body, couple coats of lacquer clear, then used a grain filler. Being unfamiliar to the process of applying filler, I was forced to sand through the clear to get a smooth surface with the...

    Dimarzio rail wiring

Thanks, Canceled that whole wiring project. The Chopper, Cruiser and Air Norton S combo are fine they way they are in that guitar. Standard wiring with a blender. I'm putting together an Ash body with a Pro Track/FastTrack 1/Super Distortion S and I'm thinking just throw a couple of switches in...

    Dimarzio rail wiring

Hi, I am installing a Dimarzio Chopper in the neck, a Cruiser in the middle and an Air Norton S in the bridge of my Strat. (All three are rail 4 conductor mini humbuckers) I currently have the standard Strat 5 way, one volume and two tone pot setup. I would like to be able to switch the neck and...

    truss rod adjustment

I have a Warmoth Pro Strat neck with the side adjustment which I lost the wrench to. Can anybody tell me if it's Standard or Metric? Also, does a straighter neck allow for lower action without buzzing or one that is bowed a bit?

    Making a poly finish dull/satin

I used steel wool on my neck to make it more playable, but within a week or two it was back to normal shine from use.

Help on V build wood choice

He has to cut the grass as his part of the deal. And wash my car  :occasion14: PRIOR to us building this. I ain't no fool. I used to be a lazy no good guitar playing kid myself  :laughing7:  :party07: I was thinking maple/ebony and alder or swamp ash originally, but I was worried that the...

scale length poll - for fun

Help on V build wood choice

I don't think Basswood is an option. He plays a lot and he is pretty hard on his guitar now. Maybe I could go with Korina body and neck. Ebony fretboard. Pretty indestructible. Would that be muddy at all?

    Stainless steel frets

I use SS and every time I play the a guitar with old style frets I am glad I have SS. Wouldn't buy another guitar without them.

Help on V build wood choice

Sounds like Mahogany body and neck, probably ebony fretboard It's going to be painted with some sort of design, so I don't need a fancy top.
