    Fendermoth: "Wild Ash"

Amazing! Is that really an oil finish? Looks incredible! If I may ask, what was all involved in getting such a good result?

    Reverse P Bass routing

Spector does as well... One idea for my next build was a Thunderbird body with dual (neck and bridge) reverse p-bass pickups.

Final sanding/buffing with nitro... how did you do yours?

Well I ended up sanding through near the bridge.  I guess my motto still stands... nothing good ever comes out of a can. Whether it's food, beer and especially paint.

Final sanding/buffing with nitro... how did you do yours?

I'm doing an aerosol re-finish on a MIM j-bass body, and am currently waiting for last coats of  clear to harden/shrink. When I started, I figured it would be just as easy as many of the autobody components I've refinished and wet-sanded/buffed to a decent luster. Basically, I just sanded it...

Using krylon auto paint for color under clear coat

I spent over $60 on "sonic blue" aerosols for a repaint of my mim J-bass body, and the place where I work spent $3 per can on some Krylon in a similar hue for a walk-path line near the loading docks. Was close enough for me, and if I could've made it work under all the clear gloss I sprayed, I'd...

Biggest building pain in the butt?

Drilling screw holes. First time I drilled for a pick guard (on my old tele), I didn't even think to worry about keeping the drill level. So I started installing the pickguard, and nearly all the screw heads sat at a noticeable angle. Second time (on a j-bass), I used a drill with a level on...

Aerosol gloss... how many cans to get?

    Thanks, will do!

    Primer as Sealer?

The stuff I used on my j-bass refinish (B-I-N shellac-based primer) claims that it works great as a sealer.

    Seafoam Jazz

I've love that bass since seeing it in the gallery. Great job! I'm currently refinishing a j-bass in ReRanch sonic blue, hope it turns out half as good as yours!

Aerosol gloss... how many cans to get?

I'm in the middle of refinishing a fender J-bass body in ReRanch sonic blue, and so far, it's been about 2 cans per stage (primer, color coat), and looking at my trusty stew-mac catalog, they suggest 4 cans of clear lacquer per guitar. I'm somewhat assuming that they're talking about an acoustic...

Should I Be Expecting A Big Box?

lol! I'd like to find the person who created them and fill their house with the damn things. Anyway, my neck took the full quoted time (4-5 weeks, no finish), but was worth the wait of course. My j-bass body only took 2 weeks, which kind of caught me off guard, financially. lol!
