Well, just a quick update. After waiting for my routing guy for 3 weeks, I finally got stir crazy and started the finish on the body and neck. I'm doing 4-5 coats of tru-oil on everything except the back of the neck which I've given one coat and sanded back to near raw and obviously the...
The gap is actuallygoing to work out quite well. I'm leaning towards putting a pickguard on this thing in the SG style. It'll be smaller thanthe SG and less 'wavy', but it will essentially be replacing the pickup rings and I'll be using the pickup ring hole pattern to attach it to the body in...
Well, it's been a while, but I'm finally getting going on this again. I've put on the trem and strung it up and the fretboard height from the body works just fine. I've also drilled holes for the pickup rings and strap buttons, but who really cares about that, you guys want pictures! My...
You and me both! I'll be putting cream P-Rails with Cream pup rings and retaining the chrome/nickleish Line6 bridge and knobs and putting grover deluxe keystone tuners and an ivory earvana drop in nut. Everything should be here by mid next week and then the fun begins!
This is a carved top, but the neck sits pretty high. At any rate, I'll set it up with the Wilky and see what happens. Looks like I'm going to have to take some tall pup rings and shave them down as the short rings are 'too' short. I'll have all of the hardware/electronics and routing...
It hasn't dried completely, but it's very close to raw, just a little oily/slippery (imagine that!). I'm guessing when it dries the feel will be very simliar to the raw feel, which is exactly what I'm looking for.
Believe me, since I've got it I've thought about going plain jane just so I could get this thing in my hands and play it, but patience has won out thus far. The cavity rout will be fun, I've already allowed bufget for extra router bits. The Variax routing is fairly extensive and this will be a...
Fantastic, thanks for the advice! I just finished putting a coat of lemon oil on, and I'm very happy with the results. I will definitely go the finer sanding route to give it bit more sheen and smoothness. Thanks again.
Pick-up wise, it'll be a hybrid. I'm tranplanting the guts of a Line 6 Variax (piezo bridge) as well as a pair of Duncan P-Rails that I have on hand. I'm still working on the control layout and schematics, I'm trying to do this with as little clutter ont he face of the gutiar as possible. ...
