AFAIK, bubinga hasn't been available as a fretboard wood in the builder for a long time (at least 6 months, probably longer)
I assumed it was because Warmoth had difficulty getting more stock.
I prefer a flat plate Tele bridge to the vintage style ones with the raised edges.
Another interesting (if expensive) thing I have seen recently in Tele-world is the Vega Trem VT2, which mounts the tremolo springs inside the six string-through-body holes so no routing is necessary...
Presumably Warmoth could come up with a doublecut design that is different enough to Gibson's to avoid legal trouble, just as the Regal is different enough to a Les Paul.
The question is whether they think they would get enough sales for it to be worth doing the design work.
There are places in the EU (and UK) that supply necks and bodies without all the tax and import hassles, but none of them that I am aware of have anything close to the range of options that Warmoth does.
So if I do end up building another guitar, I'm almost certainly going to still go with...
I like the look of these, but as others have said, they are rather expensive.
The other thing is, I don't think any of the available headstock shapes look quite right with the body.
A somewhat related question: I seem to remember reading a long time ago that the 7/8 necks would fit and intonate correctly on 24" scale bodies, eg Jaguar, Mustang or Jag-Stang, and vice versa.
I can't now find the thread (links lost when the forum was upgraded?) and there is nothing on the...
I was just playing around with the body builder as I sometimes do, and noticed that it is not possible to add a dye finish to any body, even with a quilted or flame maple top that would normally allow this.
It's also not possible to add a dye finish to an in stock body with a quilt maple top...
Apologies for the double post, but I should also add that I tend to play very lightly with thin picks, so perhaps I'm not hitting the strings hard enough to cause lateral movement of the saddles - but it may be more of an issue if you play more aggressively with heavy picks.
I'd love to see a test of this, but I think it would be hard to do, as once the body is routed for a tremolo it's hard to mount any of the hardtail bridges. The wraparound bridge also needs a different neck angle AFAIK.
So you'd probably need to use different bodies for each bridge, and then it...
