    First Mooncaster

No complaints. Better than a 335 and no thumb blockage as on a Les Paul. Maybe not as comfortable as a Strat on the upper frets but it’s a nice trade off for the semi-hollow tones. I got the contoured heel so that probably helps. This is honestly my favorite guitar. I’d let my Fenders, Gibsons...

    “American Beauty”

Thanks for the nice words. The hardest part for me was choosing the right pickups. I wasn’t necessarily chasing a specific tone but I always had Jerry’s Alligator tone in the back of my mind. These do that and much, much more—very versatile pickups. Getting them at the right height and in the...

    “American Beauty”

I built this last year and just realized I never shared the photos. Roasted Swamp Ash body (Clear Gloss) Roasted Flame Maple neck (Clear Satin/Standard Thin/42mm/9.5”) DiMarzio Area 58(N) DiMarzio Area 61(M) DiMarzio Virtual Vintage 54 Pro (B) This was my first build. Thanks again to the...

    First Mooncaster

I’ll consider it. I was thinking something a little more phishy though.

    First Mooncaster

I finished this yesterday. I absolutely love this guitar. It’s very difficult to put down. Walnut body and neck (59 Round/43mm) Ebony fretboard (12”) Seth Lovers—New favorite pickups! Next, I need to find a case and think of a good name.

    Mooncaster Strap Locks

This is perfect. Thanks so much!

    Mooncaster Strap Locks

Where should I put the strap buttons on a Mooncaster? I’m using the Schaller S-Locks. I didn’t see any definitive answers from a search and I thought I should ask before drilling. This is my first offset ever so I’m not sure how to balance it best. Also, since it is semi hollow, I want to make...

    Filing TOM Saddles

I chose the Gotoh wrap around as well. It looks like both types of bridges have the guide slots in place on the saddles. Are you saying those are sufficient to hold the strings in place? I seldom do the Townsend windmill these days.

    Filing TOM Saddles

Thanks for the advice. StewMac just had a tool sale so I bought the appropriate file for each string gauge. I watched a couple How To videos on it. It looks fairly simple.

    Mooncaster Questions

This really helps. Thanks for posting! It looks like the Mooncaster is very close to a Strat in overall size. I’m guessing access to the upper frets is not as good but with the heel contour it might be fine for my big hands.

    Mooncaster Questions

I can’t find the dimensions on the Mooncaster. Can anyone comment on how large these are compared to a Strat or WGD? Are the edges sharp like a Les Paul top? How is the upper fret accessibility on these?

    Filing TOM Saddles

I definitely do not have the files. I see that they are not cheap and it seems like I would need to buy a different file for each saddle/string.

    Filing TOM Saddles

I’m thinking about pivoting from doing another WGD to a VIP or Mooncaster. I see that those require a TOM bridge so I would need to file the saddles. I’ve been scrolling through the forum looking for some information on filing these. Can someone point me in the right direction as I have never...

Considering these woods for new WGD build

I’m seriously considering the Walnut/light wood laminate/Rosewood combo now. For the neck I’m thinking Walnut shaft with a Rosewood fingerboard. Should I go with Rosewood (Dark) or the standard Rosewood for the fretboard to look best with the Rosewood top on the body?

Considering these woods for new WGD build

Unfortunately, I just confirmed that they no longer do back laminates.
