    Preferred application method for TruOil

Are you using a grain filler? I've done it with and without and didn't get an appreciable difference in gloss. Maybe I didn't apply enough coats but gloss wasn't that important to me. The number of coats makes a difference. I don't have the patience for 12 coats.

    Black Korrina G5

I just unboxed an "in stock" G5 body in black korrina. The pictures on the website didn't do it justice! It's gorgeous! It'll look great with a TruOil finish.

    Wishlist: 3+2 Warhead fretless

As it turns out Klos and Halo make 3+2 necks. I even heard from a Chinese source that said they could do it *and* put a Richlite fingerboard on it. Finding someone who's done a Paddle head before would be the trick. I don't have the time or patience to track down that unicorn down so those above...

    Compund radius ?

By my reasoning compound radii are unnecessary on basses. My Yamaha 5 is around 20" radius all the way.

    Strings for fretless bass

    GHS compression wound for me.

    Wishlist: 3+2 Warhead fretless

If I had the shop facilities and the skill I'd consider the Paddlehead BUT I don't. I'm sure neither I nor Warmoth wants a butchered job that I'd have to say, "It's a Warmoth" about.

    Wishlist: 3+2 Warhead fretless

It's a Yamaha Nathan East. Quite a few have similar 3+2 heads; Alembic, Lakland, Klos, Halo to name just a few. The 4+2 applies only to guitars, the 3+1 only to basses. MM didn't think to add 3+2 for basses or 4+3 for 7 string guitars

    Back chambered Tele weight loss

Sanded down 1/4". The back was an unusually figured piece of ash that wasn't big enough for anything else but we saw the possibilities with bookmatching it. It's not exactly "veneer", it's about 1/4" thick.

    Back chambered Tele weight loss

A commercial grade thickness sander is the best way. A planer wouldn't be wide enough. You really want the surface to be flat and level. I was lucky to have a tech with the right stuff.

    Back chambered Tele weight loss

I gotta say though it was a real PITA to do. If you don't have a commercial grade thickness sander you may as well not attempt it. Mark Arnquist is a platinum level tech whose gift is thinking outside the box with the skill and precision to execute it

    Wishlist: 3+2 Warhead fretless

Just ordered a G5 "in stock" bass body. I want a 3+2 Warhead style headstock with a straight angle. Frankly, the 3+2 Warmoth offers is butt ugly and it's a tilt back. The standard 4+1 Fender neck wouldn't look right either. I don't know how Warmoth does their CAD but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't...

Does It *Have* To Be Wood?

I'm still struggling with this. I've seen some Macassar ebony with some stunning streaks of white in it. The downside is that I can't really see it when I'm playing and the density can vary a lot which affects tone and contributes to dead spots.

Does It *Have* To Be Wood?

Actually, comparing 5/16" 5 string blanks, Richlite is closer to $45, Junk ebony blanks can be had for $25 but a AAA grade Gabon ebony 'board can run over $100. I wouldn't expect the average builder to have a CNC machine but Warmoth does. With as many manufacturers who've added Richlite to their...

Does It *Have* To Be Wood?

Sustainable? Yes, but the cost effectiveness is a wash. It's not cheap and depending on the capability of your CNC machine, carbide tip cutters may not be adequate making diamond tip cutters necessary. Aside from the sustainability, the main attraction for me is the sound and feel of it.

Does It *Have* To Be Wood?

I've never heard of it before but I'm a little skeptical of using a softwood that's inconsistent in its density and not especially well suited to epoxy saturation. The Richlite matrix uses an engineered paper designed to be saturated with resin.
