    US vs EU sandpaper grits

Now I'm confused. This is a 3M 800 grit that I bought in California a few weeks ago, and it says P800 on the back. Does this mean this about 600 Cami?

Wet sand between coats - how to clean?

Nice. Cricut vinyl is exactly what I used too, except I just used it as a stencil.

Wet sand between coats - how to clean?

Barely enough make the undercoat opaque, plus a bit. Probably somewhere around 2 coats but I think I do light passes. After using half of stewmac clear coat rattlecan against a surface area equivalent of a guitar body front, I'm getting a pretty glassy/glossy finish. Sticky to the touch, just...

Wet sand between coats - how to clean?

Racing stripes are exactly what I had in mind. Are the stripe areas on those guitars completely flush?

Wet sand between coats - how to clean?

Thanks for the tip. How would you clear coat something like the following? This is an experiment I'm doing on a wooden stool but I plan to replicate similar steps on my guitar. The base coat was red. Then I masked it and overcoated with black. Removed the masking tape, and now applying clear...

Wet sand between coats - how to clean?

So I know some prefer to wet sand between clear coats. How do you completely remove debris and water from the area to continue with further layers of nitrocellulose lacquer? Since you're applying water, I guess you can just wipe or even rinse with water and then dry?

    Procedure for a multi-step stain

Here's a mock of what happened. So as not to waste too much masking tape, I covered most of the target material with paper, and only used masking tape to form the square area, which is where I wanted to paint. This is just a mock so not exactly how it happened, but as I was moving the wood...

    Procedure for a multi-step stain

I know nothing about stains, so more out of curiosity but: Are you planning to stain the entirety of the body top with all 3 stain colors? Would that give the alternating yellow and green effect of the flame? I think it's a cool technique if you can control the shades by changing the amount of...

Would you consider this as orange peel?

I *think* I went pretty wet with the clear compared to the color layers, but maybe it wasn't enough as I don't have a good frame of reference for myself. After the clear, I did end up with one slight run, so I was thinking that's thick enough for a single coat. I'm aiming for a relic look, so I...

Would you consider this as orange peel?

That made me think, earlier on in the process, I did (or at least so I hope) a very light layer of yellow. The way I tried to achieve this is to hold the can far and almost mist it into the air. After this operation, I was left with yellow power on the body that I could wipe off with my hands...

Would you consider this as orange peel?

    Clear nitro.

Would you consider this as orange peel?

2 coats of clear so far. And yes, I didn't think that being too far might cause issues. I did warm up the can though, up to about 120F (or at least that was the temp of the tap water when it came out). After a few days though, the bumps are extremely small, and I can see slight signs of the...

Would you consider this as orange peel?

Just used Stewmac's rattlecan and shot from at least 12 inches out.

Would you consider this as orange peel?

Hi ya folks. Finally a nice clear dry day so I applied some clear coat on my guitar. As a general rule, is it possible for the color to get muted after clear coat? I did some trans amber first, but because the alder was pretty red, the color came out with a pretty strong orange hue. Today after...

Lint from tack cloth? [also update]

Was totally daunted, but also didn't want to live in fear that the finish might not stay - this is after all my favorite guitar out of the ones I own. So ended up sanding the whole thing down, wiping all the tack off, and re-applying the sealer again. And I'm happy I did it! No more funky...
