From the start, I had in my mind that I wanted to go for a PRS Yellow Tiger or Copperhead … I think it’s in that ballpark.

Did a light sandback with 320 and 400, then applied one coat of gold and two coats of tan. Here’s where it’s at with one coat of tung oil. I’m gonna let it dry for 24 hours, then I might lightly sand and see if I can lighten it up with some tan.

Alright, I bought a sample pack of Angelus leather dye and liked the test pieces. Here's where I'm at: 1st Coat, Gold: 2nd Coat, Dark Brown: Options: - Dye now w/ Tan (which is actually a pretty vibrant amber/yellow. - Light sand-back and dye with either Gold or Tan - Finish as is Thoughts?

Here's an update ... finished the back and sides (8 coats of tru oil, then 3 coats of a tru oil/arm r seal/naptha mix). I've been mixing a ton of dye on test pieces, and I think it all looks like trash. So, as another idea, I started a test piece of maple different types of oils ... this one...

I sanded off the brite tone and mixed up about 1/3 tru oil, 1/3 arm r seal, 1/3 naptha. i added some JE Moser oil soluble dark red mahogany and red aniline dye. This body now has two layers of dye ... the dye i mixed in with the danish oil when i applied it, and the dye in the poly topcoat. 2...

@Scab Pickens: Dang, those are expensive! @Hodgo: I wish ... i'm rocking the Fender Blues Jr at the moment, and at 15W it's way too much amp for my townhouse. Considering trying to either find something in the 5W range, or at least something with a power scaling. On a separate note, I think...

Thanks for the tip! Will that work for hand-rubbed oil applications? This top looked $hitty to me from the first oil application. I didn't start putting dye on it until I sanded it back to re-do.
