Some issues on a new neck...

The point about the handheld reamer...I know this has been entrenched in the world of guitar repair for decades. I may be in the minority not liking it. Making a conical hole no matter how perfectly done reduces the amount of wood the tuner is contacting in that hole to a thin ring. Two...

Some issues on a new neck...

So I got in touch and they did agree that the tuners were missed somehow and covered me returning it to have them cut 25/64". When I get it back the other issues I'll deal with as best I can sanding before spraying.

And now for something completely different

I see you bought one already but some folks on talkbass recommend the Bartolini onboard Preamp AGMPBoo for the Graphtech piezos. It has a port the piezos directly plug into and its smaller overall. I've run the Acoustaphonic in a few guitars going back to when it was called F.A.A.S. Sounded...

Some issues on a new neck...

Hello. I bought an in stock neck on a good discount and it arrived with some issues. Most of them I probably could live with for the price. I bought it not knowing exactly what I'd do with it yet so its not holding up a project. But.. the tuner holes have some issues that are bothering me...

    It's Jade dots day!

Nice! Love the look of all the stone dots but I've never seen them in person. (well I've seen gemstones, but not on a guitar neck lol ) How reflective are these once they're all sanded out or finished over?

    Gibson scale conversion neck.

Thanks for explaining. I'm glad you got it how you want it now. Do you happen to have before and after photos of the bridge holes? Do you mean once the bridge was mounted further back, you drilled from the top down at an angle to connect to the existing string through holes? I've been...

    Gibson scale conversion neck.

Yeah my question was because of this statement... "I'll probably leave the high E side bridge plate attachment screw in place and move the low E bridge plate side back approximately 1/8" to achieve proper intonation adjustments according to my measurements"

    Gibson scale conversion neck.

I've never tried a conversion neck (maybe next screamin' deals blowout? lol) but this sounds like something the good folks at Warmoth would assist with. Am I reading this right? Angling a hardtail bridge to get proper intonation without string, screw, saddle interference sounds pretty...

How much weight should paint add?

A very popular single cutaway shape. That's all I'm sayin'

How much weight should paint add?

Yeah there's a few other forums I'll research or read stuff on because there's knowledgeable people, but I'd never try to engage there. My favorite nugget - recently I learned that all Stratocasters are made wrong because the contours aren't ergonomic and the upper horn is too long so they hang...

“Uh Huh” - Hybrid Strat - Roasted Alder

Wow cool idea on the pickup layout. Can't say I've ever seen Soapbar Hum Soapbar before. Seen a few neck Soapbar + bridge Hum and did one myself once. Interested to hear how the different pickups pair and complement each other. Looks like you're going lower out put on this one. When I...

QUESTION: Best option for this custom body?

I don't think anyone has said that you should be able to tell by taking the controls or neck off. If the back was sprayed with a tint and the top wasn't then the cavities should show the wood's natural color and grain. The cavities might be shielded but the neck pocket should be untouched...

How much weight should paint add?

The Reverb community would like to have a word ;) I've had people needle me or try to haggle over less tangible more trivial stuff than that. Sometimes it's they heard a Strat neck must be a certain thickness or a Tele must be under 7 lbs or something like that. They're nervous about buying...

Why is Les Paul control layout the way it is?

This was always the silliest part to me. Is the label for the audience? The recording engineer? I don't get it. I saw a guitar with this recently... somewhere...The switch cover on the back was about 30-45 degrees to the centerline. It must have been an L shape switch not the straight ones...

    Wood horror stories?

I hear you. I was too ambitious when I first started making bodies. I should've saved some super figured pieces of wood until I had better skills. And now the prices are crazy, I saw Allied selling quilt maple carved top blanks for $800 the other day!!
