The hard thing about sparkly finishes like that is actually capturing the sparkles in a photo! The chrome-dome pickups are well suited to the finish though, there are so many different silver "colours" (nickel, SS, chrome, other alloys..) it can sometimes be hard to get a coherent match.

    The wait is over

I just got my (roasted) flame maple neck a few weeks ago and I went the burnishing route: https://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=19901.0 It feels like glass and considerably less friction then the nitro that I had sprayed on the headstock, even though that is smooth by itself. It's...

    Velocity in Red

I always liked satin finishes. They don't really look completely "flat", they have a sort of lustre that is really warm and pleasing to look at.

Thank you all for the feedback! Yeah I basically agree that black is the go-to option here, but I bought both of the off whites so I was almost looking for an excuse to use them. I can always stick one of them on my current MiM strat though. I also think that the off-white matches the maple...

Ahh thanks for letting me know. Yeah I was using dropbox and they were working for me but it seems I can't hotlink those previews like that. I've moved them to imgur instead :)

Hi everyone! My strat body finally made it to Australia, thankfully in perfect condition  :blob7: This is a birdseye maple on alder, rear routed SSS strat. It will be eventually paired with a maple + rosewood neck, but for now I will use my existing maple neck. It's planned to be a...

Opinions needed! rear routed birdseye maple strat

Yes you did but I wasn't sure exactly what sort of inserts you were talking about. Just a solid block to screw into or something more complex. I'll check out the threaded ones, thanks for the info. I was also thinking about some sort of metal bracket inside the pickup cavity that I could then...

Opinions needed! rear routed birdseye maple strat

Thank you all. That all makes sense and I'm not so keen on the maple-on-maple idea now. The only issue with this is that I would have to go with a dark (i.e. black) pickup option if going this route. Even if I don't paint it black, it will be very dark from the shadows. Which may be ok if...

Opinions needed! rear routed birdseye maple strat

Hi everyone! I have a warmoth body on the way, a birdseye maple on alder: Finish will be brown to clear burst, with a maple + rosewood neck. I'm not sure what to do about the pickups. I don't really want to mount directly to the body, I think it looks bad, especially with the pickups being a...
