Hi guys.
It seems every time I come here to post, it's been 1 - 2 years since I last posted. I should update some old build threads that I had going. I was doing a Full Range Cabinet build for my new amp modeler and such, but I've been fighting through a divorce with 3 kids for the last 2+ years and a lot of that stuff went from the bench to storage. I'm looking to get started again.
I've decided to build my first 7 string and I found this kit which I really like. Also sold in Canada so that's a plus for me.

The thing I'm not super happy about is that it's a Floyd. I'm really not a big tremolo user, I have a Grover Standard Strat replacement bridge for my Warmoth Superstrat, but I basically never use it unless I'm practicing from a method book specifically for using the whammy bar.
I would like to eventually learn to use a Floyd like all the kids these days in their Verb the Noun djent bands, but I don't think that I want something as complex as a Floyd on my first 7 string. I'd rather have a hardtail.
I don't want to just block the trem block with a piece of wood and screw the spring-claw-thing as tight as it can go inside the cavity, I want to physically fill the trem cavity with wood, including the bridge cut, and just use a surface hardtail with either a stop piece or a stringthru. This body would be painted so I don't care much about the grain or anything other than it completely fills the void and I can use minimal bog to fill the cracks, and that it will all sand down smooth.
Anybody done this before?
Also: Recommendations for good budget 7 string pickups appreciated. I'm broke (yay divorce) but I'd rather not use the OEM crap that comes with the kit. Thanks
