A follow-up to my OP -- which, yes, was from three-and-a-half years ago, and Full Confession: I have not done anything to the instrument since then. Those finish aberrations are still there, haven't successfully sanded them off, haven't applied any additional coats of Helmsman Spar, haven't...
...provided you can wait. :(
Two guys in NYC with much shorter turnaround times who've done wonderful work correcting the screwups that I've made with my Warmoth builds are Evan Gluck at New York Guitar Repair, and Paul Nieto at GuitarTechNYC. Both of them are extremely skilled, thoughtful, and...
Might want to add padouk shaft with ebony fingerboard to your list. I have a Warmoth guitar-in-progress with that combination and it looks and feels phenomenal.

My recording signal path is:
- Demeter VTMP-2b tube microphone preamp
- Lucid AD9624 analog-to-digital converter
- MOTU 2408 audio interface
- Mac running Digital Performer
On occasion I'll insert a compressor in between the mic pre and the A/D...usually an AudioArts 1200, sometimes an...
Apologies for the zombie thread resurection, but fwiw I used a Warmoth all-Brazilian Ebony bass neck on this bass which had a Swamp Ash P Bass body, and just by cheating the rear strap button a couple inches off center I was able to ameliorate any neck dive.
Obviously I sold the bass, but not...
Is that Eric Johnson with the red ES-335?!?! I did not expect to see him mixing it up with Vai and Satriani (though he certainly holds his own in that shred-fest).
the youtube algorithm introduced me to guitarist Matteo Mancuso the other day, so I've been checking out his work. Impressive chops, but not just in the "look at me!" sense.
I gotta figure that after 12 pages someone else might have mentioned this already, but just in case...
Hard Rock, Heavy Rock, and Progressive Rock strike me as two if not three separate (sub-)genres. There is so much "Progressive Rock" that is neither Hard nor Heavy...and a shit-ton of Hard...
As threatened, this bass is now for sale over in the Classifieds folder:

I'm using MOTU Digital Performer -- and, fwiw, not the most current version...not even close -- because DP was the first DAW I ever used a bazillion years ago, after having used MOTU's MIDI-only version Performer for several years prior, and so familiarity with workflow is completely ingrained...
I just listened to an audience recording of the 1989 Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe tour ...does that count as "Classic Rock"? They played some old Yes tunes from the 1970s.
Oh yeah, if I needed yet another passive 4-string bass with roundwounds that's definitely what I'd do.
Best case though it would just duplicate something I already own.
Worst case -- and tbh, the more likely outcome -- is that it would simply confirm that my beef isn't with flatwounds, it's...
Captain Pedantic wants to point out that three tracks from Sticky FIngers were recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound Studios in Sheffield, Alabama.

uhh... if by "brilliant" you mean Has His Own Approach To Intonation then I guess I can't disagree.
Meanwhile...
Lately I've been listening to a lot of mid-80s Steps Ahead, mid-90s John McLaughlin, and mid-70s Weather Report, Terje Rypdal, and Miles Davis.
Also mid-60s Miles Davis.
