Can a stereo jack and y-cable be used to have a double neck instrument that is "always on" unless either a volume knob or other muting device (tuner, etc) is used? Basically having each leg correspond to a particular neck and going to a dedicated signal chain/amp?

Is there any practical/functional reason to not go for the universal route on a top routed Strat? I can understand wanting to make a something historically accurate, but, barring that, the universal route seems like the best way to go.

Has anyone tried one of these?  Seems like a nice little stack that'll work for anything smaller than a place you'd want to go direct, and it has the line out for when you need it.
