I was eye-balling them as well! I always thought a body with a common piece that mounted the neck strings and pickups made more sense from an acoustical standpoint then a body with a glue seam down the middle. The billions of 2 piece bodies made has proven my theory incorrect though. There was...
Lookin great!
I was not aware of the Solarez U/V cure products. I am always on the lookout for options that are less toxic/less flammable/wont kill me sooner. I will definitely consider them. One of the reasons I love this forum.
LOL! Back at you Spud. And in honor of the greatest daredevil of all time (and you for the idea):
Just a quick decal for now. I'll get good at airbrushing and apply a proper star at some point. I'm too busy playing it right now.
Short of some minor set-up tweeks and picking out a new strap the bass is complete. The sound is great! I still have to get used to it though. I've been playing (occasionally) a MIM jazz bass with monel flat wound strings for a few years now. I put pressure wounds (almost round wound) on this...
I have a strat warmoth body (ash/maple top) that I didn't grain fill. The grain read-thru had a nice effect. I did a dye job on it with a nitro finish. My inexperienced brain told me the grain filler would effect the dyeing process and i wasn't opposed to seeing grain on the finished product...
And just as a statement of full disclosure: I am fairly new to spray finishing. Always glad to share my experiences, but, I have a ways to go before I would consider myself an expert.
Thanks so much!
I used 2 different HVLP spray guns and an air compressor (with a water trap and regulator valve). For the sealers/colors/clear coats I used a box store brand gun with a 1.4mm tip. For the flake I used a “Loose Cannon” gun with a 3.0mm tip. This gun is specifically for spraying...
Thanks all very much. I have decided to keep on with the finishing and assembly process with this one and forgo the Knievel star. I do however have a cheap short scale electric body that I used as a guinea pig for this project. This was my first flake finish, first time using water based...
Cerakote makes a spray on air cured C-series ceramic "paint". Its more of a satin finish as opposed to flat. They recommend a light sandblast (etch) and a wipe down with acetone (degrease). I don't know how well a pickguard would tolerate that. I think you can also use a scotchbrite pad and...
OMG! I didn’t even think of that. I am totally adding stars to the back. It will now be the Buck Owen’s/ Evil Knievel inspired bass! Thank you for the idea!
